Autonomous WorkPod in Real Spaces
WorkPod is designed to fit naturally into a range of backyard environments and can be configured as a private office, technology workspace or high-performance computing room.

WorkPod FAQs
About WorkPod
What is the Autonomous WorkPod?
The WorkPod is a premium prefab work pod purpose-built for remote professionals who need a real, dedicated workspace. At 102 sq ft, it's spacious enough to fit a full office configuration — standing desk, ergonomic chair, dual monitors, and storage. It sits right in your backyard, fully insulated and weatherproofed, ready to use from day one. Think of it as your own private office, just steps from your back door.
What's the difference between the WorkPod and the MetroPod?
The WorkPod is 102 sq ft vs the MetroPod's 80 sq ft — more room for a full desk setup, storage, and comfortable daily use. The Pro also includes furnished and solar panel options. The MetroPod is the compact entry model best suited for smaller yards and simpler setups.
What's the difference between the WorkPod and the StudioPod?
The Pro is optimized for focused daily work. The Versatile is 105 sq ft and designed for multi-purpose use — work, play, creative projects, or client meetings. If you want a space that does more than hold a desk, the Versatile is the better fit.
Can I buy the furniture in the furnished option separately?
Yes. The furnished option includes a Standing Desk, ErgoChair, Cable Tray, Filing Cabinet, Anti-Fatigue Mat, Bookshelf, and Electrical Cabinet — all available individually at autonomous.ai.
Permits & Zoning
Do I need a permit to install the WorkPod?
In most US states and localities, no. The WorkPod is 102 sq ft — below the permit threshold in the majority of jurisdictions. Autonomous views it as a shed rather than a permanent structure since it has no permanent foundation, no plumbing, and is under 120 sq ft. That said, zoning rules vary, so always check with your local building department or HOA before installation.
Do you provide building plans for HOA or permit documentation?
Yes. Autonomous can provide full building plans and technical drawings for HOA submissions, local permit applications, or personal records upon request.
Installation
How much space do I need in my backyard for the WorkPod?
The WorkPod footprint is 8.5' W x 12' L. For comfortable access and airflow, we recommend an area roughly double that — approximately 17' x 24'.
What surfaces can I install the WorkPod on?
The 6 height-adjustable foundation feet let you install directly on grass, gravel, dirt, concrete, brick, or sloped ground — no pouring, no grading, no excavation required.
Can I install it on a slope?
Yes. The adjustable foundation accommodates uneven ground. Slopes should not exceed 5° (approximately 4.5 inches) for optimal stability.
How hard is it to assemble? Do I need a contractor?
Assembly can be done DIY or with a contractor. Autonomous recommends 2–3 people for optimal results. Most installs complete in 1–2 days.
How long does shipping take, and what does delivery look like?
From order to use in approximately 1 week. The WorkPod ships in crates with all components and tools included. No crane required. Check the product page for current shipping estimates.
Can I move the WorkPod if I relocate?
Yes. The WorkPod is not permanently attached to the ground and can be disassembled and reassembled at a new location.
Specs & Features
What makes the WorkPod sound-insulating?
The walls feature premium soundproofing and thermal insulation materials — plywood, wooden frame, honeycomb paper, housewrap, and metal siding — to maintain stable temperatures year-round and block external noise. All glass is 5/16" tempered. The result is a distraction-free environment for calls, focused work, and video meetings.
Can the WorkPod be used year-round?
Yes. It's weatherproofed and insulated to remain comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. Compatible with portable AC units and mini-split systems for hot climates, and a small personal electric heater is sufficient for winter use.
Can I customize the window location?
Yes. The WorkPod is available with windows on the right side or left side — selectable at checkout depending on your backyard layout.
How does the power connection work?
A single discrete outdoor-rated cable connects from your home's existing outlet or panel to the pod. All interior wiring is concealed. No hardwiring or extra electrical costs. Max power: 2,750W at 110V/25A with 3 universal wall outlets, ceiling light, ventilator, and Ethernet port included.
Can I add a solar panel?
Yes. The WorkPod has a solar panel option available at checkout.
Can I add heating and air conditioning?
Yes. WorkPod works with portable AC units and mini-split systems — no proprietary HVAC required. Use what you already own or install what fits your climate. A small personal electric heater is sufficient for heating.
What is the weight capacity of the foundation?
2.9 tons — well above what any normal office setup requires.
What are the interior dimensions?
Overall size: 8.5'W x 12'L x 11'H. Ceiling height: 6.8' to 9.3'. GFA: 102 sq ft.
Warranty
Does the WorkPod come with a warranty?
Yes — 1-year warranty on the pod. Contact Autonomous directly for full warranty terms and coverage details pods@autonomous.ai.
Is there a free trial period?
No trial period for the pod itself. Because assembly and setup vary by environment, a standard return trial isn't practical. However, a 30-day trial applies to Autonomous furniture products included in the furnished option.
